Walnut Coffee Table

Design & Quality

This table was inspired by a George Nakashima design using 100 year old walnut timber.

The base is set at 15 degrees. The balancing leg is a wedged through mortise and tenon joint.

I used black resin to infill any cracks or imperfections in this piece, while preserving the natural beauty of the wood.

The finish is a hard wax oil finish. This finish doesn’t have any harmful VOC.

Because oil is a natural product, it brings out the natural color and beauty of the wood, and highlights the feathering and Chatoyance in the wood grain. There’s no build up or plastic look to these finishes.

Another great benefit to oil finishes? They are glass smooth to the touch.

How is this from just ONE! piece of reclaimed timber slab?

I often get asked this question from clients regarding custom made creations I have for sale. When beautiful pieces of wood come to my workshop, I often am inspired to create a useful item out of the wood I find beautiful, even in it’s age or imperfections.

The creation of different parts of the slab, how the tree grew, when it was harvested, how new/old it is, the finish, the craftsmanship used to make strong, guides my custom creations.

The answer is, always: “It is, not trying to fool you!”

I find beauty in wood and continue my journey into increasing my knowledge, craft and skills to provide one of a kind, special made, treasures that are built to last.
