Client Request:
Client requested coffee table with top-open glass display area for their agate collection.
The Design:
The challenge of this piece was to make it strong enough to hold as much as 100 pounds, without making it bulky and clumsy looking.
Miters with splines used for top display area, to achieve a suspended, floating look, without sacrificing strength and durability.
Base joinery done with mortise and tenon for strength.
Materials Used:
Wood
Solid walnut in one piece was used to build the top display area box, then cut in half, so the grain would wrap and look like one continuous piece.
Finish
Finish is my custom oil wax combination to let the beauty of the walnut shine through.
