Client Needs:
Client in need of coffee and sofa table during a remodel project.
The Design:
Based on the direction the client was going with their remodel project, I chose a mid-century modern design, to blend in and look well with their other interior design choices.
Mortise and tenon joints used throughout build both for strength and durability, but also to ensure centuries old master craftsmanship was used in modern world creation, to match the client’s decor.
I chose to hand scrape the wood instead of using sandpaper for the final step before applying finish. This coupled with my custom finish, really brings out the deep natural colors and the beauty of the wood, with the perfect sheen.
Materials Used:
Wood
I chose solid walnut for this build and started with 6/4 walnut lumber, so final build would finish at an 1 1/4″.
Anything thinner than that would have looked too dainty to fit into overall ambience of the room.
Finish
The finish applied is my own custom formula. Made from a combination of bees wax, oil and other natural products, it enhances beauty of the wood, but is also, a VOC free finish.
